 CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Ballet/Tap (Preschool Dance)

Our preschool dance program is divided into a half hour of ballet and a half hour of tap.
Preschool dance classes get involved with lots of imagination and games to keep the  interest and attention of young students.  Children use large motor skill movements such as jumping, skipping and hopping, and are made aware of music and rhythm. Exercises for building physical strength and coordination are offered in a fun and nurturing atmosphere.  Children also learn the discipline and manners required in the dance studio.  REGISTER NOW

Ballet/Tap (Combo Classes)

Our combo class program is design for the child that starts dance later then the preschool student.  The combo class is divided into a half hour of ballet and a half hour of tap.  The teacher guides the students to learn in a way that makes discovering movement, balance and listening skills fun.  By the end of the year the students will memorize simple exercises, and learn vocabulary that will prepare them for classes taken in the years to come.  REGISTER NOW

Ballet

Students are taught ballet exercises at the barre and center floor, progressing towards more complex combinations as the levels increase.  The teaching emphasis is on how to stand with the body in proper alignment, the use of turn-out from the hips, pointing feet and the coordination of the arms and head movements.  Ballet is beautiful, flowing and elegant, yet is also strong, forceful and disciplined.  It is a basis for dance subjects.  REGISTER NOW

Pointe

Pointe is an extension of ballet that requires solid, consistent, current ballet training coupled with leg and core body strengths.  Pointe is only available to those students taking other weekly required ballet classes and invited by the directors to attend.  REGISTER NOW

Tap

Tap students develop coordination, rhythm, strength and stamina.  Basic techniques and rhythm through the use of the shuffle, flap, ball-change and other beginning steps are taught. As students progress, a focus on control, speed and smoothness while exploring syncopation is taught along with more advanced steps. Close floor work with focus on speed and clarity of sound is emphasized.  REGISTER NOW

Jazz

Jazz dance is fun, high energy choreographed workout that involves learning basic postures, stretches and fundamental movements.  Class begins with warm-up stretches and flexibility exercises.  Floor work, jazz techniques, across the floor combination and choreography which may incorporate some funky and urban moves are taught.  Jazz focuses on body isolation's of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms.  Jazz also encourages individual expression and the development of personal style.  A ballet or combo class is required to take jazz.  REGISTER NOW

Lyrical

Strong use of ballet is incorporated into this form of dance.  Performed simply as “poetry in motion”, lyrical often uses the “lyrics” from songs to non verbally express the music.  Having a very strong ballet background is important to mastering this dance technique.  This form of dance is incorporated into intermediate and advance jazz classes.  REGISTER NOW

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is high energy street movement as seen in music videos by artists Justin Timberlake, Usher and Janet Jackson.  Hip Hop has a range of styles, from break dancing, pop-n-lock, to krumping.  As hip hop dancing is such a broad genre, the teacher has much freedom and room for personal interpretation, and often mixes various styles freely, even mixing them with other dance forms such as jazz.  L.A. Dance Connection offers a terrific “Boys Only” hip hop class that really lets the guys show their stuff.  REGISTER NOW

Turns and Jumps (Technique class)

This class is similar to the jazz technique class.  The focus is on turns and jumps through across the floor combinations.  These are nice additions to the regular level jazz classes to really fine tune skills.  Students looking to accelerate learning are encouraged to take this class.  Students must be enrolled in a ballet and jazz class to participate in this class.  REGISTER NOW
